For Week 13 of the Creativity Challenge I am very happy to share this music video of the original song “I See the Sun” by the band Two Cities One World.
TCOW features my good friends Jared and Anna and is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Jared is an American guy and Anna is a Bulgarian girl and they are married and have a very nice personal and musical relationship. They are very creative and are always writing songs, making art and doing many other creative things.
“I See the Sun” is a chill beach song, about two people in love who are far apart from each other. They are searching for each other and the song is about coming together with the help of the brightly shining sun. It’s a very nice song.
The story of this song is a year and a half long, beginning with a beach trip that we made to Sozopol, Bulgaria in the summer of 2014. We were jamming the night at Jared and Anna’s song the night before we left for the beach and we got the idea to try to whip up a music video. So we furiously worked for a few days when we were supposed to be partying on the beach whipping up the scratch track, scouting locations and shooting. It was very hard work for a few days, especially for me as I worked very long hours (on the beach) to put together the audio in time for shooting.
The weather was perfect when we shot the opening scene and Brian got some beautiful shots of the nicest Black Sea sunrise you could imagine. Later the full band shoot on the beach at Gradina (famous Bulgarian beach camping/party area) was really fun and we even shot a few takes with a whole bunch of super cute kids (although those shots didn’t make the final cut).
This project was perhaps my largest creativity collaboration to date. Making a music video requires many different skills, and it was a very good experience to work with so many of my good friends on a creative project together. The song was written and arranged by Jared and Anna. Anna sang and acted and Jared played guitar. Brian Hankey was the visual director, main cameraman, shoot coordinator, and band driver. Bozhidar Stoichkov played cajon. Desi Belcheva did the video editing. Veselin Chelev & Lilia Marinova did camerawork and much on and offsite help. I did the audio producing and played trumpet and a little shaker. It was a real team effort!
So thanks to everyone who helped make this project a reality, and without further ado, here is “I See the Sun”!
